Founded by Ken Were in 1973, Were Travel in Matamata then moved to Newmarket in the 80’s - fast forward to 2000 and he was joined by Deanna Tolj and the two have worked together since, building an award-winning Travel Agency with a team of loyal and experienced staff.
Collectively, we have over 100 years’ experience, and together we create phenomenal itineraries based on our personal experiences to make all your travel dreams a reality!

Deanna has travelled extensively which has given her first-hand knowledge and she has made it her personal goal to specialise in creating everlasting memories and the best experiences she can for her clients, she builds fantastic relationships and truly understands the requirements and always delivers on these.
With over 40 years’ experience you cannot beat his knowledge, and after all this time travel is still his biggest passion. You name it he’s been there and done that!
There is nothing Terri enjoys more than to help create a wonderful holiday for all her clients by giving the best, honest advice using her own personal experience and knowledge.
Lynda has travelled extensively over the years while working in both NZ and London... cruising in Alaska, safari in South Africa, cruising the Galapagos Islands and relaxing in Rarotonga are some of her Favourite Destinations.
Jaine comes from a travel industry background, and has a vast knowledge of many destinations. Jaine is now our tour escort extraordinaire and is involved in the planning of our boutique group tours.
